What You've Been Reading!
The Namesake
Author: Jhumpa LahiriGenre: Realistic Fiction
Well, this just happened to catch my eye at the library (literally... I'd already chosen my books and was about to leave, when I happened to spot it in the browsing box). I'd heard about it (especially since it's a big movie now), so I thought I'd give it a try. This book is freaking awesome. I loved it! It talks about Gogol Ganguli's parents' lives before he was born and then it continues from his point of view. It's about how he hates his name and wants to change it, and wonders why his parents named him Gogol (there's a story behind that too, involving an extremely tragic accident). It was just so heartfelt, and I could definitely relate to the main character at times, since I've never lived in India too. It was so sad when *spoiler warning* his dad dies, and when his wife cheats on him. *spoiler end*
And now, my dad's reading it because I told him how great it was.
Now I can't wait to see the movie! Has anyone else read it?

A House Called Awful End
Author: Philip ArdaghGenre: Fantasy
Pages: 201-300
Sort of a take off of A Series of Unfortunate Events, but also very different. Not exactly funny, but so ironic and random you can't help but laugh. This is a story of a boy named Eddie. His parents get sick, and he is sent to his mad Uncle Jack, and even madder Aunt Maud. While he is with them, he meets an acting troupe, gets mistaken for an orphan and is taken to St. Horrid's Home for Grateful Children. How will he escape? Read and find out!

Harris and Me
Author: Gary PaulsenGenre: Humor
Pages: 101-200
Okay, this book is short, yes, but hysterical. You will be laughing the whole time that you are reading it. It is about a boy with alcoholic parents so he is sent away to live with relatives for the summer. He grows close to a family, especially their son Harris who is about his age. This book basically just shows life on a farm but in a really different and funny way, with a little bit of revenge, too. If you have ever read a Gary Paulsen book, you know that this is great. I definitely suggest that you all read it.

Ever found a book you're not quite sure whether you really want to spend the time reading it? Ever wanted some opinions on said book before you do start reading it? Well this is the place for you! Name the book and the author, and we'll help you out!
For instance, I've got The Adrian Mole Diaries and The Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood, but I'm not sure whether I want to invest time into reading them. I've heard good things about The Adrian Mole Diaries, and I know the movie to The Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood is pretty popular, but does this make them worthy enough to read? Help me out!

Christie's comment: I'm a bit sad at the moment. Why? Because I finally finished all four Maximum Ride books! And what a ride (pun intended) it was! James Patterson has an incredible imagination, and to take an idea from two previous books, and create a brand new mind-blowing series, is definitely something! Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed all four books, and definitely didn't predict a bunch of the twists in the final two. I'll have a review of the final two in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for those, and while you wait, you may as well read them for yourself! And so saving finished that series means that yes, I'm reading Breaking Dawn! I don't think I've ever seen a book that could double so easily as a doorstop! It's so massive. However, it's going to be one of those books that I'm never going to be able to put down seeing as I belong to the club of people who have to finish chapters before they put a book down, and Stephenie Meyer certainly knows how to write long chapters. Anyway, that's enough from me for now. Onto your reviews!
